Venezuela is divided in 23 regions (estados) divided in departments (municipios), which are divided in parroquias, the rural communities composed of a village and various hamlets.

 

Calderas, of about 5000 inhabitants, is located in the Calderas parroquia, in Bolivar municipio of Barinas region, at 900 m altitude in the Andean cordillera of Venezuela. Its climate is one of the most pleasant of Barinas, fresh and typical of the piedmont in comparison to the hot Venezuelan plains. The average annual temperature is of 20ºC.

The emblematic Cerro (hill) El Gobernador stands out from the other surrounding mountains like the Cerro La Popa, the Cerro Las Flores or the Cerro Azul.
